Buying a second-hand iPhone 5: Is it worth it?

Dear all,

I have the opportunity to buy a second-hand, almost new iPhone 5 with a disk space of 64 GB. The device and the battery are in good state, as the phone is only five months old and has not been used. As I’m not keen on the latest iPhone, I generally wouldn’t mind buying the second-hand device. However, some people state that due to the newer and more powerful processors of the iPhone 6 and later devices, the iPhone 5 won’t be usable in a comfortable way with VoiceOver in the longrun.

What are your views on this matter? Would you buy the second-hand iPhone 5 if you were in my shoes? The price is quite good, and as I said earlier, I’m not keen on the latest iPhone model. Are any of you still using the iPhone 5 with the latest IOS version? If so, how satisfied are you with this combination?

Many thanks on your views in advance. Quick replies are highly appreciated, as the person selling the iPhone 5 would like a decision from my side any time soon.

Thanks again and have a nice day everyone.

If all you need is an accessible phone, you'll be fine. I am using the 5 with IOS 8.1 with decent success. I'm with you, at this point, I've not really considered upgrading to the 6 it just doesn't offer enough. I think you'd be just fine.

I would do it.

Agreed with the past posts. I got the 6, but I was upgrading from a 4S and hope to squeeze 3 years of use out of it.
As to the advantages of a 6? There's Apple Pay which may not be used anywhere near you. You can still use Square's apps, Groupon and LevelUp, depending on what's around you.

I agree with the other posters. But the only thing I would want to know is how much? Is this device unlocked? And since it is only 5 months old will the seller pass the rest of the warrentee on to me?
These questions would be a factor. Otherwise, you'll find it will serve you well.

I agree with the last post. Before you buy the phone, check with the seller on the price, what carrier the phone is locked to, if this is the case, and make sure that the seller totally resets the phone.
